Around the world, an estimated 50 million people are living in modern-day slavery. Through our partnerships:
People were educated about human trafficking
Trafficking survivors received aftercare
Victims were rescued from trafficking
WHY HUMAN TRAFFICKING?
Human trafficking is defined as the recruitment, transport, transfer, harboring, and receiving of people, typically by force or coercion, for the purpose of exploitation. Trafficking takes many forms including: sexual exploitation; forced labor or domestic servitude; forced marriages; and children forced to serve as soldiers or commit crimes for the benefit of someone else. Combating human trafficking is a complex task that requires dismantling trafficking networks, teaching communities to understand and identify risks, protecting victims, and providing aftercare for survivors.
DID YOU KNOW?
- Women and girls account for 60% of detected trafficking victims.
- 3.3 million children are in situations of forced labor.
- 6.3 million people are in situations of forced commercial sexual exploitation.
- 38.7% of detected victims are trafficked for sexual exploitation, while 38.8% of detected victims are trafficked for forced labor.
One Day’s Wages comes alongside grassroots partners to spread awareness about trafficking prevention, and provide rehabilitation services and economic opportunities for survivors. Since 2009, we have supported 31 human trafficking projects in under-resourced communities, impacting over 20,500 people. Through our partnerships, Birungi received intensive psychosocial and financial support to restore her livelihood and care for her children after escaping sexual exploitation, and Nita was rescued and reunited with her family after years of uncertainty and trauma in an illegal orphanage.
We choose our partners wisely. Each organization goes through a rigorous vetting process before we approve a grant.
