Project #52 | Human Rights Education in Cambodia

Our partnership with CARAM Cambodia

Our grant with CARAM funded a project to provide education on human rights and safety for migrant workers in Cambodia.  This consisted of 4 call-in radio shows on this subject that will reach 70% of the country.  Also public forums and follow up visits were provided for community members.  There was leadership training, to provide focal people in the communities who will then be able to help other community members, as well as a hotline for people to call into with their questions and concerns.  Additionally, “Safe Migration Kits” and brochures were handed out to community members and potential migrants giving these families another resource.  Through this project with CARAM, these Cambodians have better awareness of human trafficking and how to take preventative measures regarding it.

Meet Pich

Pich is 17 years old and was born in Por Ro village, Cambodia. Mesa is a student, grade 10 and a member of youth council in Koh Kong high school. “I felt the training course on safe migration and human trafficking was very important for me and Cambodian migrant workers, as I had become a focal person to provide education to my friends, my families and neighbors,” says Pich.  After the training course, he started realizing the significance of safe migration and human trafficking.  Since he attended the training course on safe migration and its relation to human trafficking and smuggling, Pich’s family was happy to hear that he has since became a focal person in the youth council at the local high school. He has begun educating his relatives and friends as well.

Thank you for making this possible!

Our movement is grassroots, to us that not only means the work on the ground is led by local leaders with the support of the community, but it also means that we raise the funds for our projects through everyday donors just like you. In addition to all the donors that gave $25, $100, or $250 and the campaigners that ran a race or donated their birthday to raise funds, we also want to thank our generous business, school, and faith sponsors who believed in our work and joined the movement. Special thanks to [insert name if available].

If you want to support future projects like this you can make a donation to our human trafficking fund.
