3 ways you inspire us

by | Sep 6, 2017

Your involvement with ODW has shown us again and again just how powerful it is when people decide to use their time, gifts, and resources to impact something beyond themselves. When you choose to join our movement to alleviate extreme global poverty, amazing things happen. And when you share that choice with others and invite them into it, momentum grows. Your generosity continues to inspire us and we’re so grateful to be part of this movement with you. Here are 3 ways you’ve inspired us over the last year…

1. Your creativity has the power to make an impact

We at ODW love this theme of a Campaign for a Cause, which is a way to share an idea, event, birthday, or anything else with people around you to invite them into the movement with you. It’s simple generosity in action and it has the potential to impact so many lives in the process. You can choose which of our global causes to support, share it with your community, and spread awareness while also raising money to make a tangible difference in the world.

One example of this powerful act is our partnership with the Bartz Brothers in Minnesota. For the past two years, they’ve been using their creativity in building huge snow sculptures to raise money for ODW’s Clean Water + Sanitation projects. Their most recent campaign raised over $25,000 and impacted hundreds of lives, including those who were inspired to give to their campaign or learn more about the need for clean water access around the world.

2. A business that’s more than just for profit

One of our newest business partners is True Having. They make beautiful pillow covers and other great handmade items using Pendleton wool. They wanted their business to reflect the meaning behind their name, from a Charles Spurgeon quote: “Giving is true having, as the old gravestone said of the dead man, ‘What I spent I had, what I saved I lost, what I gave I have.’”

True Having wanted to have a heart of generosity in all that they do and are committed to donating 15% of each purchase price to One Day’s Wages. If you’re in Seattle this November, you won’t want to miss an opportunity to bid on a few of their items at our Gala!

3. Faith groups seeking justice and empowerment

We partner with different faith groups and churches to further the impact of ODW. There are several ways that churches engage with issues around global inequality and seeking justice. Our faith group partners can donate to a specific cause that resonates with their community, either by hosting an event, giving an offering, or empowering the core of ODW by being a Gala Sponsor.

One example of this is Marketplace Church, who has partnered with us for the past two years by doing a Christmas Party for a cause. They celebrate Christmas by throwing a party with food, music, auction items, and a focus on giving generously to those in need. Last year they raised over $8,000 to go directly to people seeking refuge. Their generosity inspires us to view the holiday season differently and think of creative ways to partner together in this important work of fighting poverty.

Thank you

We are so grateful for you, your creativity, and your commitment to making a positive impact in the world. If you’re inspired to join us in a new way, I’d love to connect with you (kenzie@onedayswages.org). We couldn’t do this work with you, so thank you!
