PROJECT #88
Project #88 | Providing Reliable Water Sources in Haiti
Our partnership with International Action
Less than half of Haitians in rural areas have access to clean drinking water. This project with International Action made clean water accessible to 3 communities in the Artibonite region of Haiti through the installation of chlorinators, which distribute small amounts of chlorine into the water, killing bacteria, viruses, and parasites to control the spread of waterborne disease.
After installing chlorinators into these communities, International Action has trained each community to independently maintain, operate, and sustain these water systems, making the success of the chlorinators dependent on the community. By providing clean water, International Action is enabling these communities to take the first steps in overcoming extreme poverty.

Meet Angie
Angie, a resident of Haute Feuille in the Artibonite region, is 17 and has aspirations to be teacher and a comedian. Before her town leaders came to International Action asking them to install chlorinators, Angie and her family used small chlorine tablets to treat the water, given to them by another small non-profit, which protected them from waterborne diseases. However, Angie was overjoyed when she heard about the chlorinators and that the community itself would be in charge of maintaining, operating and sustaining the clean water systems. She was excited because she knew that at any time the non-profit that had been providing the small chlorine tablets could leave and her family would be without clean water. It had happened before. She knew that the chlorinators were different because the success of the chlorinators would be dependent on her and her neighbors, not an outside group.
Thank you for making this possible!
Our movement is grassroots, to us that not only means the work on the ground is led by local leaders with the support of the community, but it also means that we raise the funds for our projects through everyday donors just like you. In addition to all the donors that gave $25, $100, or $250 and the campaigners that ran a race or donated their birthday to raise funds, we also want to thank our generous business, school, and faith sponsors who believed in our work and joined the movement.
If you want to support future projects like this you can make a donation to our water & sanitation fund.
