PROJECT #39

Project #39 | Water, Hygiene, and Sanitation for School in Uganda

Our partnership with Water School

ODW’s $10,000 grant to Water School was used to implement a safe water, hygiene, and sanitation program at Buwembe Primary School in the Busia District of North-Eastern Uganda. The project reached 600 households in the surrounding communities.

The project began with students and teachers being thoroughly trained by Water School field staff in a three-step program which integrated sanitation and hygiene education with a water treatment technology called Solar Disinfection (SODIS). Once trained, the school was equipped with SODIS tables and PET bottles, while key messages and practices were reinforced in the classroom.

Meet Caroline

She is 10 years old, a primary four child at Buwembe primary school and also a member of the school WASH club. Caroline successfully introduced access to safe drinking water, personal hygiene and sanitation to her home. From her very unique participation and interest in WASH related activities at school, she was one of the children identified and trained by the volunteers and teachers to be able to train in her home.

Thank you for making this possible!

Our movement is grassroots, to us that not only means the work on the ground is led by local leaders with the support of the community, but it also means that we raise the funds for our projects through everyday donors just like you. In addition to all the donors that gave $25, $100, or $250 and the campaigners that ran a race or donated their birthday to raise funds, we also want to thank our generous business, school, and faith sponsors who believed in our work and joined the movement.

If you want to support future projects like this you can make a donation to our water & sanitation fund.
