PROJECT #18

Project #18 | Agriculture and Technology for Economic Empowerment in India

Our partnership with Haritika

ODW’s grant to Haritika funded their project to bring safe drinking water and improved sanitation to the village of Shaipura in Madhya Pradesh, India.

Our partner Haritika is a NGO that has been working in India since 1994. Haritika’s mission is to empower and bring about positive change in the quality of life to the people in poverty in the Bundlekhand region of India. They work with people whose lives are dominated by extreme poverty, illiteracy, and disease. They also seek to implement development interventions that promote dignity and gender equality along with social, financial and environmental sustainability. Haritika’s intervention programs focus on natural resources management, women’s empowerment and sanitation & health education.

Haritika’s project provided relief to Shaipura’s water crisis by drilling for a new water source that filled a 40,000 liter elevated water reservoir bringing water directly to the 89 homes. Haritika also developed more sustainable water recharges to keep the reservoir at peak production levels. Additionally, Haritika held educational seminars in the community on proper sanitation and hygiene, which are essential components in any water security project.

Thank you for making this possible!

Our movement is grassroots, to us that not only means the work on the ground is led by local leaders with the support of the community, but it also means that we raise the funds for our projects through everyday donors just like you. In addition to all the donors that gave $25, $100, or $250 and the campaigners that ran a race or donated their birthday to raise funds, we also want to thank our generous business, school, and faith sponsors who believed in our work and joined the movement.

If you want to support future projects like this you can make a donation to our water & sanitation fund.
