Project #45 | Education on Human Trafficking in Thailand

Our partnership with The Freedom Story (formally The SOLD Project)

Sexuality and abuse is not discussed openly in a Thai family, leaving children vulnerable in their lack of understanding about their bodies and how to respond to touches from others that make them uncomfortable. The consequences of little to no education in this area has disastrous, lifelong consequences in Thailand when a lack of education and a need for income is coupled with “opportunity” in the nearest city’s Red Light District.

We partnered with The Freedom Story to hold 2 two-day camps offering parents and their children the ability to learn and openly communicate about conflict and discuss solutions in a supportive environment. The camps were intended to build open communication about violence, forgiveness, and to raise awareness around trafficking. The camp’s anti-trafficking portion discussed “body safety” with the children. From song-and-dance to role-playing how to respond to uncomfortable scenarios to drawing body maps, the children were equipped with an understanding about the individual rights they have.

Family Camp

The Freedom Story staff identified students within our scholarship program that are experiencing the most trouble at home. Since there is a direct correlation between the health of the family and the vulnerability of a child being trafficked, these family camps are a place where families can come to receive support and guidance to work towards a healthier home. In total, there were 24 people present at Family Camp.

Thank you for making this possible!

Our movement is grassroots, to us that not only means the work on the ground is led by local leaders with the support of the community, but it also means that we raise the funds for our projects through everyday donors just like you. In addition to all the donors that gave $25, $100, or $250 and the campaigners that ran a race or donated their birthday to raise funds, we also want to thank our generous business, school, and faith sponsors who believed in our work and joined the movement.

If you want to support future projects like this you can make a donation to our human trafficking fund.
