PROJECT #58
Project #58 | Investing in Better Maternal Care in Nepal
Our partnership with Possible
Our partnership with Possible (formerly: Nyaya Health) will transform 6 existing government clinics into high-quality birthing centers. This project is part of a larger Safe Motherhood Program, operating in partnership with the Nepal government, which focuses on bringing the infrastructure, equipment, human resources, and training together to improve reproductive health in a region. These clinics will provide women access to high quality maternal care, which will result in many safe pregnancies throughout the year. Another element of this expansion is the investment in community-level health systems that aim to provide access to education and antenatal care for women and their children. By training local community members to work in these facilities, the community will be empowered to sustain the clinics.

Meet Khaptad
Upon feeling contractions in the morning, 20-year-old Khaptad, made the three-hour journey on foot to our hub at Bayalpata Hospital. She had been counseled by our Community Health Workers to head to our hospital when she had come to full term after having undergone a Caesarean section during her previous delivery. After presenting at Bayalpata Hospital, our team brought the young mother to our operating theatre where she underwent a successful Caesarean section surgery. After receiving operative and postoperative care, she was discharged to her home on our ambulance free of cost and is now home with both her children.
Thank you for making this possible!
Our movement is grassroots, to us that not only means the work on the ground is led by local leaders with the support of the community, but it also means that we raise the funds for our projects through everyday donors just like you. In addition to all the donors that gave $25, $100, or $250 and the campaigners that ran a race or donated their birthday to raise funds, we also want to thank our generous business, school, and faith sponsors who believed in our work and joined the movement.
If you want to support future projects like this you can make a donation to our maternal health fund.
