PROJECT #53

Project #53 | Creating Jobs for Women in South Sudan

Our partnership with The Forum for Community Change & Development (FOFCOD)

Through the 20+ years of civil-war in South Sudan, disabled women and their children have been some of the most marginalized in the region. ODW’s grant with FOFCOD funded a computer lab allowing 50 women to learn the skills needed for employment. By providing marketable skills through training, these women can take part in social, economic, and political decisions affecting their lives. This was our opportunity to support a program that has the potential to help many women receive the skills to be employed and become active members in the transformation of South Sudan.

Meet the Women of FOFCOD’s Classes

“FOFCOD has helped me to learn how to manage my business. Before I attended this training I did not know how to manage my books of accounts but this training has opened my eyes”

“Literacy classes reminded me of when I was a little girl going to school and makes me happy. Now I can read and write and run my own business”

“Thanks to FOFCOD, We now have the knowledge on how to borrow money and decide what we want to do with it. In the past, we couldn’t do that. We are in a better position to handle our own affairs and improve our lives …”

“I remember in our first computer class the teacher telling us how it is easy to master a computer, I thought it was impossible, but I have now come to learn to appreciate that through good training like the one I am having at FOFCOD I can now become a computer wizard, even at home every one refers to me for help on computer. My father promised to raise some money for me to start a computer business when I am done with the training.”

Thank you for making this possible!

Our movement is grassroots, to us that not only means the work on the ground is led by local leaders with the support of the community, but it also means that we raise the funds for our projects through everyday donors just like you. In addition to all the donors that gave $25, $100, or $250 and the campaigners that ran a race or donated their birthday to raise funds, we also want to thank our generous business, school, and faith sponsors who believed in our work and joined the movement. Special thanks to [insert name if available].

If you want to support future projects like this you can make a donation to our jobs & skills fund.
