ODW + RESTORE HOPE
Project #330 | Integrating Climate Action and Mental Health in Liberia
Our partnership with Restore Hope Liberia
One Day’s Wages partnered for a second year with Restore Hope Liberia to provide mental health services for women and to create climate-adapted livelihood opportunities in Kolahun District. Our partnership supported the creation and maintenance of a community food forest that incorporates indigenous knowledge to grow edible plants. This year, planting groundnuts and peppers under the shade of the fruit trees bridged hunger gaps during the dry season, and provided a needed source of income for 60% of participants. Beyond supporting food and livelihoods, the community forest offers a safe and beautiful space where women can meet for group therapy, allowing their confidence to blossom. Through their proven model of 12-week Interpersonal Group Psychotherapy, this year Restore Hope saw a 87.5% reduction in depressive symptoms!

Meet Wendor
In Liberia’s far north, there’s a word for depression in the local dialect: ndeyalee. Despite the high prevalence of ndeyalee, it is rarely discussed openly and formal care is limited. For Wendor, it was the combination of group therapy and working in solidarity alongside other women in their beautiful forest that brought restoration.
“Most of us in this town had ndeyalee before, especially those without husbands and are left with children to take care of. However, when Ma Sayan [RHL’s mental health facilitator] started coming to us and holding meetings, we began to forget about our problems. All of us have been going to the community food forest. Working together has given us more hope that this is going to help us.”
Thank you for making this possible!
Our movement is grassroots. The projects we support are led by local leaders, and all the funds we raise are through ordinary donors who give a day of their wages to support those experiencing extreme poverty. Will you consider giving $25, $100 or $250 to make our partnerships possible?
