Our Partnership with İlk Umut Derneği

On February 6th, 2023, a massive 7.8 magnitude earthquake devastated Southeast Türkiye and Northwest Syria. The death toll from the earthquake surpassed 50,000 people, and millions more were displaced from their homes due to damage or destruction. With many living in crowded temporary camps – and without adequate sanitation facilities, health centers, and hygiene supplies – survivors became susceptible to outbreaks of communicable diseases like cholera.  Access to hygiene supplies to prevent the spread of disease became critical.

One Day’s Wages partnered with Ilk Umut Dernegi to distribute hygiene kits to families displaced from their homes in Türkiye.  Each kit contained soap, shampoo, wet wipes, toilet paper, bleach, toothpaste, sanitary pads, and other essential supplies. Ilk Umut Dernegi staff worked tirelessly to personally hand out the hygiene kits via their distribution networks in Antakya, Gaziantep, and Kahramanmaras.  Through our partnership, 4,235 families had access to much-needed relief supplies!
