PROJECT #11
Project #11 | Economic Empowerment for families affected by HIV/AIDS in Thailand
Our partnership with Sustainable Development Research Foundations (SDRF)
The Livelihood Project centered on developing sustainable livelihoods for hundreds of HIV/AIDS-affected families in seven provinces of Southern Thailand where the prevalence of HIV disease is among the highest in Asia. We partnered with SDRF on The Livelihood Project which supported the training, equipping, and maintenance of tilapia ponds at the level of a community or a group of families. The families then market and sell the fish to generate income. In short, ODW’s partnership with SDRF empowered hundreds of HIV/AIDS affected families to lift themselves out of poverty.
The mission of our partner SDRF is to bring about holistic transformation among poor, marginalized, and at-risk communities in Southeast Asia and beyond, by empowering people at the grassroots level to improve their quality of life. SDRF engages in “process” with the local community in order to learn their felt needs and to collaborate with them in addressing long-term, creative, and sustainable solutions to those needs. They act as “brokers” of resources, knowledge, and connections that facilitate positive changes toward this goal.
Thank you for making this possible!
Our movement is grassroots, to us that not only means the work on the ground is led by local leaders with the support of the community, but it also means that we raise the funds for our projects through everyday donors just like you. In addition to all the donors that gave $25, $100, or $250 and the campaigners that ran a race or donated their birthday to raise funds, we also want to thank our generous business, school, and faith sponsors who believed in our work and joined the movement.
If you want to support future projects like this you can make a donation to our jobs & skills fund.
