ODW + REMEMBER NIGER

Project #293 | Empower Education Through Essentials

Our partnership with Remember Niger

Over half of Nigerien children are out of school, and nearly 70% of those aged 15 to 24 are neither employed, nor in education or training. These percentages are even higher for girls, often due to early marriage. Another major factor contributing to low school attendance and high drop out rates is the lack of comfortable and welcoming learning environments. Essential supplies and infrastructure like desks, fans and toilets are vital to ensuring children can thrive in school.

One Day’s Wages partnered with Remember Niger Coalition to equip three schools (Azzel Primary School, Guidan Arna Primary School, and Aguie Middle School) with school supplies and infrastructure. By outfitting classrooms with desks, seating, chalkboards and ceiling fans, students are more likely to attend school regularly and have improved academic outcomes.  Through our partnership, attendance during the 2023-2024 school year was 96% for primary school students, and 98% for middle schoolers. Incredibly, 97% of students passed the end of primary school exam, and matriculated into middle school!

Meet Abdou

Abdou, one of 310 students at Azzel Primary School, smiled shyly when asked if there was anything that he liked about his new classroom, then shared:

“I like that we will go to school all year this year because the buildings won’t flood when the rains come. But even more than that, I like that my desk is new and doesn’t tip over anymore because this year, there are new desks that aren’t broken in my classroom!”

Thank you for making this possible!

Our movement is grassroots. The projects we support are led by local leaders, and all the funds we raise are through ordinary donors who give a day of their wages to support those experiencing extreme poverty. Will you consider giving $25, $100 or $250 to make our partnerships possible?

One Day’s Wages exists to alleviate extreme poverty by investing in, amplifying, and coming alongside locally led organizations in underserved communities.
