One Day's Wages recently turned one month old! It's been quite an exciting month. In addition to some great support from other organizations, great press in the media, we're excited to also share that we hit a big mark this week in surpassing 500 members (couple weeks ago) and surpassing $100,000 in donations through the ODW community.
And the exciting part is that we're just getting started.
We have three current projects we're raising funds for:
- Border House between Nepal/India that will be able to rescue up to 300 girls from human trafficking. (Not for Sale // $25,000)
- 250 Fresh Start Kits to provide a whole new world of opportunity for 250 women and families in Congo. (Heal Africa // $25,000)
- A water well and clean sanitation for an entire school in Ethiopia (charity: water // $25,000).
You may have noticed that our staff has implemented a new giving meter that shows the goal and amount raised thus far for these individual projects.
One of the compelling aspects of ODW is you CHOOSE where to donate your one day's wages. Some of our members have chosen to give to the projects above and others have chosen to give to a general Giving Fund that allows our Board of Directors to fund smaller grants or assist in funding current projects.
Help us spread the word and invite your friends, family, and co-workers so that we can fully fund the three projects above within the next 3-4 months.
As we've passed the total giving mark of $100,000, we've started processing inquiries for grants. While we're excited about our current partnerships, one of our main strategies is to partner with NGOs and CBOs whose annual operating budget is under US $100,000. As we've shared before, money isn't the solution but rather, people. Our vision is to partner with women and men that are working in creative, efficient, and courageous ways to build capacity in their respective organizations and communities.
This is where we need your help: Go here to nominate organizations (budgets under $100K) that we should be building relationships with. A nomination doesn't guarantee a grant but we'll extend a letter of inquiry to see if there might be a possible partnership.
We've begun fielding grant applications and started vetting organizations and we're excited to announce the first of hopefully, many grants in the next month or so.
We've just started. Our goals over the next 12-18 months include:
- growing our ODW community to 6,000+ people
- funding numerous grants and projects
- demonstrating proof and progress of these grants and projects
- sharing stories of hope and courage via our blog and videos
- surpassing $1,000,000 in donations
- using all of our mediums to raise awareness and invite more people to the cause of ending extreme poverty
Imagine if 10,000 people gave their one day's wages each month, quarter, or year. Imagine if 100,000 people made a commitment. Imagine their respective and unique voices and stories.
We can't do this alone. We are a global and grassroots organization. We need your help. Join ODW and create a profile. Donate your one day's wages. Help us spread the word. Sponsor a party to raise funds for a project through ODW. Invite your friends to join our Facebook Page (we're currently at about 790,000+ fans). Check back soon for our holiday gift guide.
We are not THE movement to end extreme global poverty but we are part of a larger movement of many people, organizations, and government leaders that believe we can end extreme global poverty in our lifetime.
