Our Partnership with She’s The First

Only 2.1% of global funding goes directly to civil society in the Global South, and women-led organizations receive even less. Without strong community-based advocates, leaders tend to overlook girls’ needs, and local policies fail to support girls’ rights. Community-based organizations (CBOs) in East Africa note the importance of working with girls in mentorship programming and sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) programs; however, they lack access to funds, practical training, and other resources to make these programs impactful.

In order to elevate opportunities for CBOs working with women and girls across East Africa, One Day’s Wages partnered with She’s The First to host a regional summit.  Through our partnership, a total of 116 practitioners from 69 community-based organizations convened for an in-person summit in Nairobi, Kenya in July 2022 and a virtual summit in November 2022.  These summits provided vital spaces for change-makers to connect, soundboard and learn about their respective approaches to girls’ rights.  Collectively, the CBOs were able to to return to their organizations and share their learnings with their own beneficiaries, reaching over 13,000 girls across East Africa!
