Our Partnership with Komera

In Rwanda, even if women are educated and employed, they are expected to take on the primary role of taking care of the household and childcare responsibilities. For this reason, only 18% of businesses in Rwanda are run by women. There are limited business and economic opportunities for women and girls, particularly in rural areas.

One Day’s Wages partnered with Komera to construct a Leadership Center for women and girls in Kayonza District, located 2 hours from Rwanda’s capital city. The new center offers space for girls to access skills and information related to language and communication, entrepreneurship, information technology, reproductive health, and protection against gender-based violence. Our partnership funded the development of an office space that serves as a hub for the Komera team to collaboratively work toward women’s empowerment. Komera broke ground for the center in August 2021 and opened its doors one year later in August 2022. Within the first 6 months alone, 1,153 students, parents and community members were impacted by the Leadership Center’s classes and services. Komera anticipates reaching over 3,000 people each year!
