Project #33 | Healthcare and School Supplies for Children in Zambia
Our partnership with Spark Ventures
ODW partnered with Spark Ventures through a matching grant to fund the a year’s semi-annual school clinic and the HIV/AIDS program for 404 children. This project covered the cost of uniforms, shoes and an additional 840 textbooks for students across grades 1-7 at Hope Community School. It also included staffing for the two 3-day clinics including local Zambian doctors and nurses stipends, malaria testing kits and medications to treat infection, medications to treat common seasonal ailments, other clinic supplies and materials, and year-round HIV/AIDS education programing. Good health is an essential condition for children to succeed academically and to prevent the spread of infections and disease. Semi-annual clinics at Hope Community School include a basic health evaluation and treatment for each child.
MALARIA PATIENTS TREATED
HEALTH WORKERS TRAINED
Mildred Songa is 10 years old and in grade 5 at Hope Community School. Her parents and close family members died of AIDS when she was young, leaving her and her younger sister to be taken care of by her great grandmother, Helen. Thanks to support received through One Day’s Wages, Mildred was one of the beneficiaries that has received a new uniform, new school shoes, and access to textbooks. Given that her great grandma needs a lot of medical attention herself, Mildred primarily benefits from both treatment and preventive care (vitamins and dental supplies) offered at Hope Clinic. If it hadn’t been for the support, Mildred would not have been able to obtain the basic school needs and medical attention that she has received.
Thank you for making this possible!
Our movement is grassroots, to us that not only means the work on the ground is led by local leaders with the support of the community, but it also means that we raise the funds for our projects through everyday donors just like you. In addition to all the donors that gave $25, $100, or $250 and the campaigners that ran a race or donated their birthday to raise funds, we also want to thank our generous business, school, and faith sponsors who believed in our work and joined the movement.
If you want to support future projects like this you can make a donation to our child health fund.
