PROJECT #9

Project #9 | HIV/AIDS Care and Training in South Africa

Our partnership with Zimele

This partnership provided funding for supplies and transportation for volunteers and patients with HIV/AIDS, so they could receive care and mobility to visit doctors. The grant helped create jobs, provided training, helped build infrastructure for this new initiative, and impacted over 840 people. The women who volunteer in the home care project are also vulnerable to HIV/AIDS. Having the skill to care, nurse, and counsel the sick empowers and educates them to manage their personal situations. Fifteen women were trained to provide this care.

A Story of Impact

The women from this project took care of a 50 year-old woman dying of AIDS. Every day they visited her. This patient started getting stronger and was full of praise for the women and their work, which she sees to be full of love. She was positive about getting better each day, “I’m a very clean person, I want to look beautiful at all times. These women wash my clothes, give me a bath and clean my place all the time. Just look at me, I feel so clean. The way I have always liked it. They have nursed me back to life now I can go to the toilet and not mess myself in bed.”

Thank you for making this possible!

Our movement is grassroots, to us that not only means the work on the ground is led by local leaders with the support of the community, but it also means that we raise the funds for our projects through everyday donors just like you. In addition to all the donors that gave $25, $100, or $250 and the campaigners that ran a race or donated their birthday to raise funds, we also want to thank our generous business, school, and faith sponsors who believed in our work and joined the movement.

If you want to support future projects like this you can make a donation to our jobs & skills fund.
