Project #89 | Human Trafficking Prevention in Thailand
Our partnership with The SOLD Project
There is proof that human trafficking prevention works. In less than a decade, The SOLD Project has seen drop out rates of students in Thailand decrease from 50% to 7% with prevention education. In order to further this progression, our second partnership with SOLD helped them to extend their outreach by helping them create a new Resource Center in the city of Chiang Rai. Previously, SOLD’s only Resource Center was located in the outskirts of the city, making it difficult for students pursuing higher education in Chiang Rai to reach SOLD’s programs. After helping SOLD to expand into the city, they are now able to stay connected with students in the city and provide resources for young women who otherwise would not have access to the resources and community of SOLD. In addition to the Resource Center, this project also helped open a safe house for vulnerable children in Chiang Rai.

Meet Blah
Blah should have been in 7th grade when SOLD staff met her. She lived with her step-grandfather at the time, both of her parents having died when she was young. With little support, she found it too hard to continue in school. After two years of being out of school, she approached SOLD’s staff looking for help. They encouraged her to go back to school and to apply for a scholarship. They also provided mentorship and legal support, and signed for her to get a student loan. She applied for informal school, was accepted, and finished grade 9. Having the courage and desire to go on to high school, she re-applied for a scholarship and graduated from high school this past year. She has gone on to a university to study organizational psychology. Blah is now a leader among her peers, encouraging them to never give up. Her story is an inspiration to the rest of those in her village, including others that dropped out. She has become a model of strength and resilience.

Our movement is grassroots, to us that not only means the work on the ground is led by local leaders with the support of the community, but it also means that we raise the funds for our projects through everyday donors just like you.
