PROJECT #85

Project #85 | Community Health Training in Uganda

Our partnership with The Adventure Project

In partnership with The Adventure Project, we came alongside 25 women in Uganda and trained them to become Community Health Promoter (CHPs). They received training which equipped them to diagnose and treat common illnesses and sell over 60 lifesaving products to their neighbors at affordable prices. Each Community Health Promoter treats up to 800 people, paying special attention to infants and pregnant women. An MIT study found that these CHP’s are reducing child mortality by over 25% in the communities where they work.

Each $2,000 of this grant trained one woman and provided her with skills, a uniform, and a phone to help her diagnose and follow-up with patients. Not only do these jobs benefit the community and the women themselves, they also enable her to care for her own family and sustainably address extreme global poverty.

Meet Rebecca

Rebecca is 47 years old and became a CHP 5 years ago. She told us the story of how she managed to treat a pregnant woman who had a very high fever and was at risk of losing her child thanks to the training and the products that she acquired through Living Goods. Rebecca followed up with the woman and her husband until a healthy boy was delivered in safe conditions. Thanks to her job as a CHP, she is able to provide better food for her family and even support her extended family with food and hygiene products.

Thank you for making this possible!

Our movement is grassroots, to us that not only means the work on the ground is led by local leaders with the support of the community, but it also means that we raise the funds for our projects through everyday donors just like you. In addition to all the donors that gave $25, $100, or $250 and the campaigners that ran a race or donated their birthday to raise funds, we also want to thank our generous business, school, and faith sponsors who believed in our work and joined the movement.

If you want to support future projects like this you can make a donation to our jobs & skills fund.
