PROJECT #65
Project #65 | Economic Empowerment for Women in Senegal
Our partnership with CREATE!
Our project with CREATE! trained 250 women in rural Senegalese villages to produce and sell poultry for profit. The grant also supported the construction of poultry sheds in each village and will provide seed money for the cooperative community groups to initiate poultry production. The goal is to use this community engagement to allow these groups to be financially sustainable. This project not only impacts these women and their communities, but it also improves local commerce as restaurants and hotels use poultry from the cooperatives.

Meet Deguéne
Deguéne, 45, is a member of Ndeye’s poultry cooperative in Thieneba. Deguéne appreciates that she now has technical knowledge of poultry brooding, feeding, and hygiene. Deguéne says that cooperative members will “benefit from this training so that in the future we will have all of the elements necessary for proper management of the poultry project.” She also notes that the cooperative has been timing their poultry sales to correspond with local holidays during which meat is in high demand. Deguéne claims that when CREATE! collaborated with cooperative members to initiate the poultry program in Thieneba, “Our dream became a reality!”
Thank you for making this possible!
Our movement is grassroots, to us that not only means the work on the ground is led by local leaders with the support of the community, but it also means that we raise the funds for our projects through everyday donors just like you. In addition to all the donors that gave $25, $100, or $250 and the campaigners that ran a race or donated their birthday to raise funds, we also want to thank our generous business, school, and faith sponsors who believed in our work and joined the movement. Special thanks to Pan Pacific Hotel Seattle.
If you want to support future projects like this you can make a donation to our jobs & skills fund.
