PROJECT #63
Project #63 | Maternal care training in Sierra Leone
Our partnership with WellBody Alliance
Our project with Wellbody Alliance funded the construction costs of a delivery center for the community of the Kono District. Once this building is constructed, 120 nurses and midwives from the community and neighboring communities will be trained, and more services will be available to the mothers and infants in the area to meet the great need in the region.
In the district of Kono, there is only one hospital and three doctors serving a population of 530,000 people. Because there is so little healthcare available, Sierra Leone has the third highest maternal mortality rate and a child mortality rate where 18.5% of children are expected not to reach their 5th birthday. Through this expansion, an estimated 1,200 women will benefit from these services each year and 12,720 women will indirectly experience improved care because of the training of maternal care professionals.

Thank you for making this possible!
Our movement is grassroots, to us that not only means the work on the ground is led by local leaders with the support of the community, but it also means that we raise the funds for our projects through everyday donors just like you. In addition to all the donors that gave $25, $100, or $250 and the campaigners that ran a race or donated their birthday to raise funds, we also want to thank our generous business, school, and faith sponsors who believed in our work and joined the movement.
If you want to support future projects like this you can make a donation to our maternal health fund.
