PROJECT #59

Project #59 | Farmer Training in India

Our partnership with Haritika

India remains home to one fourth of the world’s total under-nourished people. Madhya Pradesh is located in central India. Approximately 3/4 of Madhya Pradesh’s population is rural, however, the distribution of population is confined predominantly to river valleys. Agriculture is the predominant means of income, but less than half of Madhya Pradesh is comprised of cultivable land. Through this project with Haritika we hope to increase in farm productivity of the farmers, build capacity through training, empower women entrepreneurship, enhance production of of safe food, and provide links to market for trading.  To do this, Haritika plans to use the funds to establish an agriculture & technology information center to provide farming resources, education, and financial support to help empower families in the community and address the economic and food insecurity there.

“I am resident of Patna village of Bijawar Block and I am a Gaud Tribe. Here we do labor continuously and are not able to earn enough for even two times of meal. Because of the intervention of Haritika with the support of One Day wages we have started working on agriculture related activities. Haritika has given us training on less water consuming irrigation techniques and less water intensive crops, which has become very beneficial for us. Now the situation of villagers has started to improve. We now have financial security. Haritika and One Day Wages has created hope within us for living a quality life.”

Thank you for making this possible!

Our movement is grassroots, to us that not only means the work on the ground is led by local leaders with the support of the community, but it also means that we raise the funds for our projects through everyday donors just like you. In addition to all the donors that gave $25, $100, or $250 and the campaigners that ran a race or donated their birthday to raise funds, we also want to thank our generous business, school, and faith sponsors who believed in our work and joined the movement.

If you want to support future projects like this you can make a donation to our global hunger fund.
