PROJECT #35
Project #35 | Building a New School in Uganda
Our partnership with Building Tomorrow
Our $60,000 partner project with Building Tomorrow went towards the total construction of a primary school in Uganda. Each BT Academy provides learning space for 323 children with seven classrooms, an office, a library, toilets and a playing field. BT Academies are often the first permanently built place of learning many students attend. When BT performs their initial assessments they focus on the number of students within a 2km radius unable to attend a formal school, the availability of local building resources, and overall accessibility among other variables.

Meet Nansamba
She is a 13-year-old orphaned child, enrolled in primary 4 at BT School of Mabaale. After losing her parents to HIV/AIDS, Margaret and her three siblings were forced to relocate to live with their paternal grandmother. Margaret currently lives in Mabaale village with her grandmother (Mangadelene) and her three younger siblings. Eventually, their irregular attendance led to their dropping out. The children spent their days working in the garden to provide food for the family and performing other chores. They also turned into caregivers for their aging grandmother. When Building Tomorrow started its project in Mabaale village Margaret’s grandmother was one of the first members to commit to participating actively to work on the site. School leadership enrolled all four children in appropriate class grades while working with the district probation and community development offices to empower the family through economic strengthening programs.
Through the district offices, a volunteer fit parent was assigned to the family to regularly monitor their well-being and to offer guidance on family strengthening. The children and their grandmother have since been trained by the National Advisory Agricultural Coordinator on appropriate farming practices. Currently, the family engages in both crop farming and animal husbandry. Now the children have the guarantee of food at home, and surplus harvests are used as in-kind school fees. Today, because of the construction of BT School of Mabaale, Margaret and her three siblings receive an education and are destined for success.
Thank you for making this possible!
Our movement is grassroots, to us that not only means the work on the ground is led by local leaders with the support of the community, but it also means that we raise the funds for our projects through everyday donors just like you. In addition to all the donors that gave $25, $100, or $250 and the campaigners that ran a race or donated their birthday to raise funds, we also want to thank our generous business, school, and faith sponsors who believed in our work and joined the movement.
If you want to support future projects like this you can make a donation to our children’s education fund.
