Our Partnership with Empower Tanzania

Tanzania has a young population. Half of its 54 million citizens are children. It is estimated that up to 71% of children in Tanzania suffer two or more instances of severe deprivations of basic needs. These challenges are complex and interrelated, and include poverty, poor health, neglect and abuse.  There is an urgent need to support vulnerable children and families so that they have access to adequate nutrition and education.

One Day’s Wages partnered with Empower Tanzania so that 50 vulnerable children in Same Town gained academic and nutritional resources at the Same Learning Center. Students met at the learning center after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays to improve their English and Swahili reading skills so they can excel in school. On Saturdays, students also received additional tutoring and nutritious meals, and participated in daily life skills instruction such as animal husbandry, games, gardening, and social skills.  Each child received a school uniform, shoes, notebooks, pens, and hygiene materials.  Among the 23 students who graduated from the program this year, 100% were successfully able to enter secondary school!
