Project #239

Project #239 | Relief Kits and Aid for Frontline Workers and Vulnerable Families During COVID-19

Our partnership with RSKS

COVID-19 created devastating effects across India, especially in rural areas like Rajasthan where many people did not get tested for COVID-19 at hospitals and the deaths in rural areas tended not to be officially recorded. Local lockdowns caused many migrants, who were already low-income, marginalized, daily wage workers, or homeless, to return to Ajmer. There they faced unemployment as well as food and financial insecurity. Many rural communities in Rajasthan were vulnerable to contracting COVID-19 due to the lack of accessible public health education, medical resources, and the spread of misinformation.

One Day’s Wages partnered with Rajasthan Samgrah Kalyan Sansthan (RSKS) to provide support for frontline workers, distribute relief kits, and increase COVID-19 health education. This partnership provided hygiene & medical kit support to 100 frontline workers in 10 hospitals, impacting an estimated 1,000 patients in 12 months. RSKS provided pandemic relief by distributing grocery rations and hygiene kits to nearly 2,800 individuals in 700 low-income families. This project also included awareness activities which provided essential health eduction to the community.

Meet Suraj

“My name is Suraj and I am a health worker and PHC in a small village. I want to say that the good efforts of the RSKS India team helped the hospital team in working with full determination for the betterment of the patients as we were facing some shortage in the medical equipment; also – because of being in the rural region – our hospital is not allotted so many supplies. Still, the pandemic resulted in more and more covid positive cases in our hospitals and due to this our medical supplies started to run out!

In this harsh situation, we heard about the RSKS’s India team and we sent them a need letter. After that, the RSKS team contacted us quickly and they asked us about the medical materials which we needed and assured us that they will be delivered to us as soon as possible. After a few days, the RSKS team came to our office with all the materials which we asked for, like surgical gowns, examination gloves, surgical masks, reusable cloth masks, sanitizer, N-95 Masks, Face Shields, Surgical Caps, and other supplies. Our hospital team was so happy as we’ve never heard of any organization working so fast. I hope that these great endeavors of the RSKS India team should gain them recognition – I thank them for this wonderful support.”

Thank you for making this possible!

Our movement is grassroots, to us that not only means the work on the ground is led by local leaders with the support of the community, but it also means that we raise the funds for our projects through everyday donors just like you. In addition to all the donors that gave $25, $100, or $250 and the campaigners that ran a race or donated their birthday to raise funds, we also want to thank our generous business, school, and faith sponsors who believed in our work and joined the movement.

If you want to support future projects like this you can make a donation to the fund below.
