Project #239

Project #239 Relief Kits and Aid for Frontline Workers and Vulnerable Families During COVID-19

Our partnership with RSKS

COVID-19 has created devastating effects across India. In rural areas like Rajasthan, many people don’t get tested for COVID-19 at hospitals and the deaths in rural areas tend to not be officially recorded. Experts in India are saying that a third wave of Coronavirus is on its way and will likely exacerbate the already devastating effects that the pandemic has created in Rajasthan. Currently, Rajasthan’s rural community health centers and public health centers face limited resources while being met with increasing COVID-19 patients each day. These centers are in dire need of medical supplies so that they can safely provide medical care. In Rajasthan, especially in Ajmer, migrant households have been some of the most vulnerable populations throughout the pandemic. Local lockdowns caused many migrants to return to Ajmer where they are now facing unemployment as well as food and financial insecurity. Many migrant households are low-income, marginalized, daily wage workers, homeless, living in slums, or are nomadic people who struggle to find consistent finances and food supply for their family’s in this second wave of COVID-19. Many rural communities in Rajasthan are vulnerable to contracting COVID-19 due to the lack of accessible public health education and spread of misinformation. Some rural populations believe that vaccines will cause them to become ill and don’t actively use face masks in public settings. This is caused not by any personal failures of these rural communities, but by the lack of health education that is available to them. Increasing public health education and equipping frontline workers with medical supplies in the rural areas of Rajasthan is the need of the hour.

One Day’s Wages is partnered with Rajasthan Samgrah Kalyan Sansthan (RSKS) to provide support for frontline workers, distribute relief kits, and increase COVID-19 health education. This partnership provided hygiene & medical kit support to 100 frontline workers in 10 hospitals, impacting an estimated 1,000 patients in 12 months. RSKS provided pandemic relief by distributing grocery rations and hygiene kits to nearly 2,800 individuals in 700 low-income families. Through wall paintings and awareness activities, RSKS increased public health education on COVID-19 to a projected 20,000 people in 20 villages.

Meet Suraj

My name is Suraj and I am a health worker and PHC in a small village. I want to say that the good efforts of the RSKS India team helped the hospital team in working with full determination for the betterment of the patients as we were facing some shortage in the medical equipment as well as because of being in the rural region, our hospital is also not allotted so many supplies. Still, the pandemic resulted in more and more covid positive cases in our hospitals and due to this our medical supplies started to go lesser and lesser.

In this harsh situation, we heard about the RSKS India team and we sent them a need letter. After that, the RSKS team contacted us quickly and they asked us about the medical materials which we needed and assured us that they will be delivered to us as soon as possible. After few days, the RSKS team came to our office with all the materials which we asked for like surgeon gowns, examination gloves, surgical masks, reusable cloth masks, sanitizer 550 ml, N-95 Masks, Face Shields, Surgical Caps, etc. Our hospital team was so happy as we never we’ve never heard of any organization working so fast. I hope that these great endeavors of the RSKS India team should land them on the page of success and I thank them for this wonderful support.

Thank you for making this possible!

Our movement is grassroots, to us that not only means the work on the ground is led by local leaders with the support of the community, but it also means that we raise the funds for our projects through everyday donors just like you. In addition to all the donors that gave $25, $100, or $250 and the campaigners that ran a race or donated their birthday to raise funds, we also want to thank our generous business, school, and faith sponsors who believed in our work and joined the movement.

If you want to support future projects like this you can make a donation to our emergency relief fund.
