PROJECT #202
Project #202 | Empowering Students in Conflict Zones During COVID-19
Our partnership with Justice Rising
Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, across the globe children’s education has been significantly impacted. Having a safe space to learn and grow is critical for children in their developmental years. For children living in war zones, education is the key to realizing this vision. Justice Rising organization specialized in building schools and supporting education in war zones, mitigating conflict through the power of education. In order to mitigate the risks of continuing the spread, schools around the world were required to shut down. As schools began closing, Justice Rising did not skip a beat and began to mobilize over 100 of their teachers to do two things: First, ensuring minimal regression in students’ learning by distributing distance-learning workbooks. Teachers were supplied with hand sanitizer, face masks, and shields to protect and prevent spread of COVID-19. Second, through dissemination of basic public health messages via radio messages to reinforce the best practices regarding water, sanitation, and hygiene.

Meet the Teachers
In response to schools closing due to COVID-19, the teachers of justice rising came together to ensure that their students were still accessing their right to education. Our partnership highlighted the value of connection with children’s development by breaking down any barriers in the way of these children’s highest good. The teachers took agency over their role as an educator, beginning with creation and distribution of at home workbooks. On the left, we see a few of the teachers preparing the workbooks for distribution to their students. In addition, teachers carried out in person tutoring sessions which helped mitigate digressions in learning in response to school closures. Face masks were mandatory for the teachers for these visits which were provided to them through our partnership. Because of their due diligence the teachers were kept safe from contracting COVID-19.
Thank you for making this possible!
Our movement is grassroots, to us that not only means the work on the ground is led by local leaders with the support of the community, but it also means that we raise the funds for our projects through everyday donors just like you. In addition to all the donors that gave $25, $100, or $250 and the campaigners that ran a race or donated their birthday to raise funds, we also want to thank our generous business, school, and faith sponsors who believed in our work and joined the movement.
If you want to support future projects like this you can make a donation to our emergency relief fund.
