PROJECT #187

Project #187 | Accessible Public Health Information and Hand washing Stations in Kenya

Our partnership with Imarisha

Despite impressive economic growth since 2005, poverty still affects millions of lives in Kenya and inequality is rampant. Because 80% of jobs in Kenya are in the informal sector, when COVID-19 struck it had a devastating impact. Most Kenyans couldn’t cease working without it putting them at risk of starvation. This, coupled with inadequate sensitization in rural and informal settings, meant that COVID-19 placed a disproportionate burden on those facing material poverty and marginalized.

Through our partnership with Imarisha, to ensure the team was protected, the organization procured branded Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) for the 11-member team of volunteers and staff. Volunteers and staff, in cooperation with government agencies, installed 20 innovative hand washing stations at bus parks and other essential places. The public education team strived to ensure that community-based interventions such as social distancing and working from home were observed to help slow the spread of the virus.

Thank you for making this possible!

Our movement is grassroots, to us that not only means the work on the ground is led by local leaders with the support of the community, but it also means that we raise the funds for our projects through everyday donors just like you. In addition to all the donors that gave $25, $100, or $250 and the campaigners that ran a race or donated their birthday to raise funds, we also want to thank our generous business, school, and faith sponsors who believed in our work and joined the movement.

If you want to support future projects like this you can make a donation to the fund below.
