Our partnership with Accessible Hope International

One Day’s Wages partnered with Accessible Hope International to intervene on the spread of COVID-19 primarily among women living with disabilities in Sierra Leone, also reaching Burundi, Liberia, Tanzania, and Nigeria. Across the globe, marginalized countries experienced vast disparities while responding to the COVID-19 pandemic. Poor testing facilities, broken healthcare systems, and lack in equitable communication technology created barriers for detecting and stopping the spread. In response, resource scarce nations were left to rely on implementing complicated and strict quarantine laws as their primary intervention, leading to further complications for women living with disabilities with job insecurity, changes in their medical care, and exacerbated symptoms of health conditions. 

Our partnership funded the implementation of low literacy virus prevention lesson materials (translated to the languages of Swahili, Kirundi, and French), materials and instructions to build tippy tap water systems, a basic hand washing station which can increase cleanliness and handsfree washing. Accessible Hope also assembled a face mask production team comprised of women living with disabilities which provided the team with essential income while meeting community needs during the Pandemic. Additionally, cash distributions were immediately made to 500 of the most vulnerable women living with disabilities to help meet their basic needs.
