PROJECT #186

Project #186 | Assisting Entrepreneurs and Their Families in Rwanda

Our partnership with Kula Project

Due to the effects of the nationwide COVID-19 lockdown in Rwanda, Kula Project’s programs and the families they work with experienced unprecedented changes. First and foremost, many Kula Project Fellows struggled with food insecurity. Whether it be a lack of money, access, or mobility, they couldn’t get the food they needed for themselves and their families. Furthermore, due to the ban which occurred on all group training in Rwanda, Kula Project staff and beneficiaries were unable to meet. Instead, the team had to adapt to one-on-one training via phone in an effort to continue offering programs and services in the midst of the pandemic. “We aren’t a relief organization, but we can’t sit by and allow our people to be hungry, or our work and relationships with them to cease. They are our family and we are together. Always.”

One Day’s Wages partnership with Kula Project provided hunger relief for 860 struggling families! They were able to fund the transportation and protective equipment that was necessary for delivering this food in line with government restrictions. Prior to the project, 20 families in the Northern Province had just lost their kitchen gardens to heavy rains, but as a result of Kula’s work, they have now been replenished. Finally, our partnership enabled the Kula Project to supply the incredible Kula team of mentors and instructors with the cellular data needed to continue communication with Fellows during the lockdown.

Meet Emeliane

Emeliane was a Kula Fellow in the Northern Province. Through our partnership, Kula was able to provide food, face masks, and soap to Emeliane and her family during lockdown. With additions from her kitchen garden and the knowledge she’s learned through their Family Health and Nutrition training, Emeliane was able to continue to cook dietarily variant and nutritious meals for her and her family during a difficult time.

Thank you for making this possible!

Our movement is grassroots, to us that not only means the work on the ground is led by local leaders with the support of the community, but it also means that we raise the funds for our projects through everyday donors just like you. In addition to all the donors that gave $25, $100, or $250 and the campaigners that ran a race or donated their birthday to raise funds, we also want to thank our generous business, school, and faith sponsors who believed in our work and joined the movement.

If you want to support future projects like this you can make a donation to our emergency relief fund.
