PROJECT #165

Project #165 | Trafficking Rescue, Restoration, and Justice in India

Our partnership with Freedom Firm

There are 3 million commercial sex workers in India, of which an estimated 40% are children. These children, particularly girls, are virtually all from the poorest of social sectors in India. Their families often allow them to accept the promise of a good job in the city or to venture to metropolitan areas alone in order to make money for the family. Just as often, however, parents themselves will sell their daughters into prostitution out of financial desperation.

One Day’s Wages partnered with Freedom Firm to eliminate child prostitution in India by providing rescue, restoration, and justice for victims of sex trafficking. Their goal is to operate in areas where little anti-trafficking work is being done. Freedom Firm successfully rescued 18 girls out of human trafficking. These women joined 26 other survivors in aftercare support, making an impact of a total of 44 girls. During this period, staff worked alongside with the investigations team during each rescue attempted, provided counseling to girls who were rescued, and made sure that they were present until the girls were placed in the shelter home. Aftercare support also included following up with survivors via phone calls, visitation check-ins in shelter and homes of survivors. Additionally, some were provided with life skills lessons from the social workers to sustainably prepare them for a future of independence and self sufficiency.

Year End Celebration for Survivors

Freedom Firm staff conducted a year end celebration for the survivors of their program in one of the shelter homes where participants were staying in. Around 10 girls attended and celebrated through dancing, singing, and connecting with one another. Two girls confided in the staff of Freedom Firm about how much their lives had changed since their arrival in a safe space where healing was possible. Here, they are able to safely express themselves and support one another through the complex process of healing. They are supporting and encouraging one another in the journey toward self-sufficiency as fully independent women.

Thank you for making this possible!

Our movement is grassroots, to us that not only means the work on the ground is led by local leaders with the support of the community, but it also means that we raise the funds for our projects through everyday donors just like you. In addition to all the donors that gave $25, $100, or $250 and the campaigners that ran a race or donated their birthday to raise funds, we also want to thank our generous business, school, and faith sponsors who believed in our work and joined the movement.

If you want to support future projects like this you can make a donation to our human trafficking fund.
