PROJECT #116

Project #116 | Combating Trafficking through Rescue, Restoration, and Justice in India

Our partnership with the Freedom Firm

As a global phenomenon involving up to 27 million people worldwide, the international sex trade is ongoing and growing. The trafficking industry is particularly pervasive in South Asia, where countries such as India serve as major hubs. According to studies conducted by the Ministry of Women and Child Development, there are three million commercial sex workers in India, of which 40% are children.

We partnered with Freedom Firm to combat child prostitution in India by providing rescue, restoration, and justice for victims of sex trafficking. This specific project focused on rescue and rehabilitation for girls in the state of Uttar Pradesh. The investigations team conducted raids in bars, spas, and private buildings to rescue girls from undercover brothels. The aftercare team travelled along them, networking with shelter homes to re-locate rescued girls to safety and connect them to counseling services. Meanwhile, the legal team sought justice for the girls, working to ensure that the traffickers and brothel keepers were arrested and prosecuted. This sort of action – both from Freedom Firm and local police authorities – sends a message to the community that trafficking will absolutely not be tolerated.

Meet Chandani

Chandani was rescued in 2018 after being forced into prostitution by her relatives promising that she will have luxurious life. Believing their fake promises, she left home for the trade. She was made to believe that prostitution was the only option left for her for a livelihood. After her rescue in March we found that she was two months pregnant. The court released Chandini to her parents after they promised that they will take good care of the girl. She is at present in her village and she is five months pregnant now. Freedom Firm is still following up to make sure that she is safe.

Thank you for making this possible!

Our movement is grassroots, to us that not only means the work on the ground is led by local leaders with the support of the community, but it also means that we raise the funds for our projects through everyday donors just like you. In addition to all the donors that gave $25, $100, or $250 and the campaigners that ran a race or donated their birthday to raise funds, we also want to thank our generous business, school, and faith sponsors who believed in our work and joined the movement.

If you want to support future projects like this you can make a donation to our human trafficking fund.
