Project #13 | Agriculture Program for Economic Empowerment in Kenya
Our partnership with Nuru International
This partnership provided loan capital for Nuru’s agriculture program, which allowed Nuru to reach additional beneficiaries in Kuria, Kenya. Each family received loans totaling $214 and consisted of seeds, fertilizer, and other farming materials. The partnership allowed 70 Kenyan families to enter into this empowering agricultural program.
After one year in the program, families averaged $369.40 of income (after their loan is repaid with interest, and after their own family’s food needs are met). This money can go towards paying school fees for children, medical needs, and/or savings for future investment. For a farmer in rural Kenya, this income makes all the difference in their quality of life and contributing to their rise from extreme poverty.

Meet Beatrice
“Before Nuru came I was desperate. I used to beg for food from my neighbors. But now, because of Nuru I am harvesting 22 bags of maize per acre, my kids have got enough food to eat, and I can sell some to pay for my children’s school fees.”
-Beatrice
Thank you for making this possible!
Our movement is grassroots, to us that not only means the work on the ground is led by local leaders with the support of the community, but it also means that we raise the funds for our projects through everyday donors just like you. In addition to all the donors that gave $25, $100, or $250 and the campaigners that ran a race or donated their birthday to raise funds, we also want to thank our generous business, school, and faith sponsors who believed in our work and joined the movement.
If you want to support future projects like this you can make a donation to our Hunger Fund.
