ODW + CAMP FOR PEACE
Project #261 | Restoring and Sustaining Viable Livelihoods for Rural Women
Our Partnership with Camp for Peace Liberia
Liberia endured shattering civil conflicts from 1989 to 2003. The entire nation was deeply traumatized, and social and economic recovery has been slow. The trauma and disruption of the Ebola crisis and the COVID pandemic further set the country back. By 2019, 51% of Liberians lived in poverty. Many women do not have opportunities to learn life and vocational skills, assume productive roles and provide for their families. Some 93% of Liberian women are worried about their economic security, with 15% of the population in crisis or emergency food security situations.
One Day’s Wages partnered with Camp for Peace Liberia to support weaving, tailoring and business training for women in Salayea. The women who graduated received start-up support and joined cooperatives through which they are able to continue growing their business and expanding their professional networks. Through our partnership, 65 women are now running small businesses and receiving needed income to support their families!

Meet Annie
In the midst of my losses, hope found me through Camp for Peace Liberia. The civil war took away my family. Then, the Ebola crisis claimed my husband in 2014. The years that followed were years of hardship. My children suffered from a lot of uncertainty, and I struggled with sickness in 2018 that nearly took my life. Life was an uphill battle.
But then I found out about Camp for Peace Liberia. Their training program has given me a the lifeline I had been praying for. I learned weaving: a skill that is transforming my life. Today, I am earning money through weaving, supporting my family, and ensuring my children have everything they need, including education and health care. The support has given me the wings to rise from the ashes of despair.
Thank you for making this possible!
Our movement is grassroots, to us that not only means the work on the ground is led by local leaders with the support of the community, but it also means that we raise the funds for our projects through everyday donors just like you. In addition to all the donors that gave $25, $100, or $250 and the campaigners that ran a race or donated their birthday to raise funds, we also want to thank our generous business, school, and faith sponsors who believed in our work and joined the movement.
If you want to support future projects like this you can make a donation to our jobs and skills fund.
