PROJECT #73

Project #73 | Improving Pediatric Care in Burkina Faso

Our partnership with Djantoli

Djantoli’s services were designed as a system to offset the weaknesses in the national healthcare system in order to provide affordable healthcare and prevent, detect, and treat diseases and illnesses. Our partnership with Djantoli trained women from the local community to visit mothers and collect data on each child’s health. Equipped with a scale and mobile phone, these women send information about the child’s weight and health to the nearest health center, where a doctor or qualified nurse reviews the information. If there are any red flags in a child’s health metrics, a health monitoring agent will quickly summon them to the nearest heath care center. Not only are the children treated through this program, but mothers also receive education on how to recognize dangerous symptoms and how to react.

As a result, 486 under-5 children benefited from regular home-based health monitoring by Djantoli mobile agents and from facilitated access to health treatment in the 3 local partnering centers; 355 mothers of the community participated in Djantoli health education program; and 92% of the targeted mothers declared a decrease in their health spending thanks to the program.

Meet Mrs. Sakande

“I’ve been a subscriber of Djantoli for more than a year. I can say that Djantoli is very welcome here in Zagtouli because it allows us to have healthcare at our door. My daughter Véronique is in very good health. She is growing well and I must say that this is thanks to Djantoli’s agents and the access to the Zagtouli healthcare center. Even now that there is free care for under-5 children, I’m still subscribing to Djantoli. My older children and I are subscribing to the insurance centre (80% discount on medication at the partnering healthcare) and Véronique, my under-5, continues to benefit from the home-based health surveillance (weighing and data collection on health status). Now that the service includes offers for mothers and older children, it is really interesting. It shows that Djantoli is taking into account the health of the whole family. Moreover, at each visit, the Djantoli’s agent provides pieces of advice on nutrition, how to react in case of fever or diarrhea. She spends a lot of time with me.”

Thank you for making this possible!

Our movement is grassroots, to us that not only means the work on the ground is led by local leaders with the support of the community, but it also means that we raise the funds for our projects through everyday donors just like you. In addition to all the donors that gave $25, $100, or $250 and the campaigners that ran a race or donated their birthday to raise funds, we also want to thank our generous business, school, and faith sponsors who believed in our work and joined the movement.

If you want to support future projects like this you can make a donation to our child health fund.
