PROJECT #95
Project #95 | Education for Syrian Refugees
Our partnership with World Relief
Of the 4.5 million people who have fled Syria since 2011, nearly half have entered the nation of Turkey, making Turkey host to more Syrian refugees than any other country in the world. This has caused a humanitarian crisis of historic proportions. To address this reality and assist Syrian refugees living in the region, we partnered with World Relief to provide schooling for Syrian children and urgent essentials for individuals and families. Our partnership with World Relief in Turkey centered around two key areas we can respond to in the short-term that will also have long-term impact: eduction and urgent supplies.
Education: Only 5% of the school-age children in Gaziantep, Turkey have been able to attend school since the beginning of the Syrian conflict. World Relief partnered with the New Life Syrian Refugee School, in order to provide provide standard education, primarily in the Arabic language, for Syrian refugee children from preschool to 15 years of age. This ministry not only served refugee children, but also provided paid employment for teachers and helpers in the school, most of whom were also Syrian refugees.
Urgent Supplies: Izmir, the last stop in Turkey for many refugees as they flee to Europe, is a coastal town is overcome by the number of refugees seeking asylum and a safe future for their families. Many have exhausted what little resources they had on the journey to this point. World Relief, through the work of local partners, provided basic supplies to these families as they continued in their treacherous journey.

Thank you for making this possible!
Our movement is grassroots, to us that not only means the work on the ground is led by local leaders with the support of the community, but it also means that we raise the funds for our projects through everyday donors just like you. In addition to all the donors that gave $25, $100, or $250 and the campaigners that ran a race or donated their birthday to raise funds, we also want to thank our generous business, school, and faith sponsors who believed in our work and joined the movement.
If you want to support future projects like this you can make a donation to our refugee relief fund.
