The year-end giving helped fully fund a couple of our projects, and this project with Water School was funded in about 2 weeks. Wow!

Our matching grant with Water School was fully funded for a total of $10.000! Because of your faithful and generous support, over 1,049 children and their families will gain access to clean water and proper hygiene and sanitation instruction.

How Did We Accomplish This?

This campaign was funded by a grassroots effort to get the word out and inspire action. The campaign was funded in just under two weeks, most of this came through individual donors, but it was also through a school partnership in Taiwan (NNKIEH). Part of the funds came from our company partnership with MiiR. Whether you donated your one day's wage or you shared the story and spread the movement, you helped us reach our goal. These stories of everyday people coming together are what inspires us and fuels the grassroots movement forward.

The Project:

One Day's Wages and Water School have joined forces in order to implement a safe water, hygiene, and sanitation program at Buwembe Primary School in the Busia District of North-Eastern Uganda. The project will reach 1,049 school children including 600 households in the surrounding communities.

The project will begin with students and teachers being thoroughly trained by Water School field staff in a three-step program which integrates sanitation and hygiene education with a water treatment technology called Solar Disinfection (SODIS). Once trained, the school will be equipped with SODIS tables and PET bottles, while key messages and practices are reinforced in the classroom. [Learn More]

A Message From Water School:

On behalf of everyone at Water School and the children of Buwembe Primary School I would like to thank you for your tremendous generosity in helping us reach our goal!

For these children and their families in rural Uganda, the challenges they face remain the same year-round, lack of safe drinking water and adequate sanitation is one hardship that is always on their minds.  This past holiday season you took time out from your celebrations to consider people a world away.  Because of this, these children and their communities will soon be free of deadly waterborne diseases like typhoid and dysentery and will have lifelong access to clean water.

This project will have a dramatic impact on the community's long term development and empowerment. 1,049 children and 600 families will gain access to clean water and proper hygiene and sanitation instruction and will be taught how to train their peers, friends and neighbors, compounding the number of people who will be reached by this lifesaving program.

Thanks to your support we are creating positive change that is real, measurable and lasting – People now have access to clean safe drinking water and will have for future generations.

With our deepest thanks,

Richard Lau | Executive Director, Water School
