PROJECT #57

Project #57 | Heart Surgeries for Children in Iraq

Our partnership with Preemptive Love Coalition

We are proud to have partnered again with Preemptive Love Coalition to support lifesaving heart surgeries for children in Iraq. Iraq has an extremely high rate of children born with heart defects, requiring some form of treatment in order for the child to survive, sometimes medication, many times with open-heart surgery. The preeminent heart hospital in Baghdad reported that it turns away an average of 80 children per day, leaving many with almost no access to doctors who can provide them with proper care.

The funds raised through this partnership provided medical supplies for all of Preemptive Love’s surgical work in 2014. These medical supplies translate into lifesaving surgeries for over 400 children to have a chance to shape the future of the country, as well as nearly 20,000 hours of hands-on training for local medical teams. We stood with Preemptive Love to empower Iraq and foster peace, one child at a time.

Meet Zahraa

She was born in Iraq with a life-threatening heart defect. Zahraa hasn’t lived a day where she hasn’t been fighting for her life – until today. Having spent the last 7 months of her life in a hospital, Zahraa finally received the lifesaving heart surgery she’s been waiting for. Last year, we rallied around our partners in Iraq, Preemptive Love, and raised money for essential medical supplies so that children in Iraq could have access to the lifesaving healthcare they deserve – children like Zahraa. Thanks to our partnership children across Iraq have been receiving lifesaving heart surgeries around the clock. During a time where violence seems to define the headlines from the Middle East, we’re helping write new headlines – headlines of peace, hope, and a future.

Thank you for making this possible!

Our movement is grassroots, to us that not only means the work on the ground is led by local leaders with the support of the community, but it also means that we raise the funds for our projects through everyday donors just like you. In addition to all the donors that gave $25, $100, or $250 and the campaigners that ran a race or donated their birthday to raise funds, we also want to thank our generous business, school, and faith sponsors who believed in our work and joined the movement. Special thanks to [insert name if available].

If you want to support future projects like this you can make a donation to our children’s health fund.
