PROJECT #50

Project #50 | Family Farm Development in the DRC

Our partnership with SAIPED

ODW and SAIPED worked together to provide the supplies needed to give 20 families in the Haut and Bas Uele districts the ability to cultivate land.  This project also provided these families with education needed to cultivate, harvest, and commercialize the crops.  The supplies included walking tractors, maize hullers, diesel engines, bag closing machines, and scales all necessary to efficiently cultivate the land.  SAIPED believes in the importance of putting beneficiaries at the center of the project, allowing for their involvement in all aspects of implementation in order to guarantee the ongoing maintenance of the project.

Meet Madame

Madame is a mother of 5 children and wife to the local pastor of Li-may. However, all her children are grown up and they have their own households. Alice saw all what belonged to her and her family looted by the LRA. In many villages like Li-may, local people don’t have bank accounts, instead their wealth is often times measured in terms of the number of bags of rice, maize, ground nuts, goats, chickens, and other belongings.

“The stress we were having, especially for food and if someone falls sick we could not know where to get money to take the person to the hospital, is now finished. I am really thankful for this project because it has added more days to our lives on the earth”. She added, “It is because of this project that I have been able to buy a new bicycle. You know now, I can ride my bicycle and visit my relatives who are 15 km from here whom I have not seen for more than 10 years…The work is now ours to continue with the project”.

Thank you for making this possible!

Our movement is grassroots, to us that not only means the work on the ground is led by local leaders with the support of the community, but it also means that we raise the funds for our projects through everyday donors just like you. In addition to all the donors that gave $25, $100, or $250 and the campaigners that ran a race or donated their birthday to raise funds, we also want to thank our generous business, school, and faith sponsors who believed in our work and joined the movement. Special thanks to [insert name if available].

If you want to support future projects like this you can make a donation to our jobs & skills fund.
